Air Freight FAQ

Essential knowledge regarding aviation shipping regulations and pricing.

How is volumetric (chargeable) weight calculated in air freight?

Airlines charge based on the actual weight or volumetric weight, whichever is greater. The standard air freight formula is: Length(cm) x Width(cm) x Height(cm) / 6000. So, 1 Cubic Meter (CBM) equals 167 kg of volumetric weight.

What is an Airway Bill (AWB)?

Unlike a sea Bill of Lading, an Airway Bill is non-negotiable. It serves as a receipt of goods by an airline and a contract of carriage. We issue both Master AWBs (MAWB) directly with airlines and House AWBs (HAWB) for consolidated cargo.

Can I ship products containing batteries via air?

Yes, but they are classified as Dangerous Goods (DG). Lithium batteries (PI965, PI966, PI967) require strict UN38.3 test reports, MSDS, and specific labeling. Our DG certified team handles this compliance to ensure your goods fly legally and safely.

What are the maximum dimensions for air cargo?

It depends on whether it flies on a passenger plane (narrow body) or a freighter (wide body). Standard pallets should generally be under 160cm in height. For oversized cargo, we secure space on main-deck freighters (like the Boeing 747F).

How long does air freight customs clearance usually take?

Unlike ocean freight, air cargo clearance is extremely rapid. Because we submit all documentation electronically while the flight is still in the air ("Wheels Up" clearance), standard commercial goods typically clear customs within 2 to 6 hours after landing.

Do you offer cargo insurance for air shipments?

Yes. Even though air freight is statistically the safest transport method, turbulence or terminal handling accidents can occur. We offer comprehensive "All-Risk" air cargo insurance to protect your high-value electronics, garments, or critical components from origin to door.

What is the difference between direct and consolidated flights?

Direct flights load your cargo onto a plane that flies non-stop to the destination, offering the fastest possible transit (1-3 days). Consolidated flights group your goods with others and often use transit hubs (e.g., flying via Dubai or Incheon), adding a few days to transit time but significantly lowering your freight costs.
